Oak Lawn UMC’s Dallas Responds Program
Additionally, Union supports Dallas Responds, OLUMC’s outreach program which has three primary components:
A welcoming center for migrants here in Dallas, responding to the border crisis. We make sure they know they are safe, free, and welcome in this country. With the community's help, we are able to have clothing, food, a space to rest, travel arrangements assistance, medical assistance, a know-your-rights workshop, and transportation to the airport.
A Warming Center with the goal to ensure that no lives are lost on the streets of Dallas during this winter due to freezing temperatures. They partner with the City of Dallas Office of Emergency Management as a primary shelter to provide a warm place to sleep and provide food and clothing to our unsheltered neighbors.
Community Meals and Food Pantry- Tuesday - Thursday from 11 am to 1 pm; unsheltered Neighbors or anybody who needs a meal can come and enjoy a hot one. If you are in need of groceries, or toiletry items, we would be happy to help!
Each year, Union contributes $25,000 to those efforts. We also hosted a karaoke fundraising event in December that successfully brought in another $1,500 as the weather took a colder turn.
